How Pesaka Restu came to be
Pesaka Restu was established in Kuala Lumpur by a small group of legal practitioners who had each spent years inside larger firms, handling estate and probate matters as part of a broader caseload. Over time, they came to share a quiet frustration: inheritance cases, more than perhaps any other type of legal work, required time, sensitivity, and genuine explanation — qualities that a busy general practice often could not reliably provide.
The firm opened its doors under the belief that a dedicated practice could do this better. Not by being faster, but by being more attentive. The name Pesaka Restu — meaning roughly a blessed inheritance in Bahasa Malaysia — reflects what we hope to offer: not just legal resolution, but a sense that the matter was handled as it deserved to be.
Since opening, we have worked with families across the Klang Valley and beyond, helping them understand estates, manage administration, and where needed, pursue formal representation — always at the pace and in the manner that the situation calls for. We remain a focused practice: inheritance and estate law is what we do, and it is where our knowledge runs deepest.

Inheritance law in Malaysia — what to know
Estate administration in Malaysia operates under a layered legal framework. For non-Muslim estates, the primary instruments are the Probate and Administration Act 1959 and the Distribution Act 1958, which set out how estates are administered and how assets pass where no valid will exists. For Muslim estates, the rules of Faraid apply — a system of inheritance specified under Islamic law and overseen partly through the Syariah courts.
A common concern families raise with us is not knowing where to start. The answer depends on factors including whether there is a will, the nature and location of the assets, the size of the estate, and the relationships among those involved. Our initial consultation — Understanding an Estate — exists precisely to help families find their footing at this early point.
Probate, the formal legal process by which a will is validated and an executor appointed, is required where the estate includes certain assets such as property registered solely in the deceased's name. Where no will exists, a Grant of Letters of Administration is typically needed instead. Both processes involve the High Court of Malaya, and both benefit from careful, methodical preparation.
